About us - Choir and Music

The Church enjoys a range of music throughout the year, both during Services and in the form of concerts promoted by other choirs and orchestras. In the last year or two we have hosted concerts by Ripon Cathedral Choir, the West Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra, the Leeds Guild of Singers, the Heritage Singers and the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra.

Our instrumental music group plays in the All Together Services, which happen once nearly every month, and has grown in confidence over the last year as a number of younger players have contributed regularly.

The choir sings on Sunday mornings and just over once a month in the evening. Regular rehearsals take place on thursday evenings from 6.30pm for trebles. For the evening services we are augmented by a number of experienced adult singers and so are able to tackle some quite challenging music with limited rehearsal time.

May I extend my thanks to everyone who supports the music at St Edmunds Church and invite you all to continue to do so in the future. If you are interested in joining the choir or music group we would love to hear from you. We welcome people of all ages (from 7 upwards) and abilities, and understand that people have other commitments which may mean only being able to participate in some of the services. This is absolutely fine as the opportunity to make music is for everyone.

Tenor Choral Scholar

We are currently looking for a Tenor Choral Scholar. The role entails singing 12 Evening services a year (BCP Choral Evensongs and special services at Easter, Advent and Christmas) and 12 morning services (mainly Parish Eucharist Services). Before each service there is a rehearsal, lasting approximately 1 hour for the evening services and up to half an hour for the morning services. The position comes with an honorarium of £400 per year (payable monthly) and applications are invited with a view to starting from September 2008 or earlier if possible.

Applicants need to be competent sight readers and have the confidence to sing one to a part if necessary. The choir is small but of a good standard, singing a wide range of Sacred music, both English and International. For enquiries please contact Graham Pawley on 0113 266 2151 or email Graham.Pawley@ntlworld.com

Enquiries about music at St Edmund's can be emailed to music@stedmunds.roundhay.org.uk
