About us - One City One World

The One City One World group is responsible for creating an awareness of social justice issues within St Edmund's and for generating support for projects both within Leeds, nationally and internationally.

The Group was formed soon after a number of people from the congregation attended a series of events organised by Faith in Leeds under their Faith in the City initiative.

Within Leeds the Group has concentrated on helping organisations involved in helping the homeless - specifically St George's Crypt and St Anne's Shelter. There have been regular collections of food, clothing, kitchen utensils and, before Christmas, toys. We have also run a market stall to raise money for these organisations. Other events have raised money and also awareness of the issues involved - examples include Lent lunches, barn dances and beatle drives.

The Group has also been active in its support of Trade for Justice which campaigns against unfiar trade rules which keep developing countries poor.

There is a monthly Traidcraft stall in Church selling fairly traded goods.

Each year collectors from St Edmund's raise several thousand pounds for Christian Aid in the annual house-to-house collection.
