More Action!
On destitution among asylum seekers in Leeds
Following the meeting with Fabian Hamilton,
Bishop John Packer, and others on October 16th 2009 Roundhay Covenanting
Churches has decided that each month our magazines will feature a different
target response to the on-going problem. It is felt that by suggesting
different responses in this way we show how we can all play our part as
is most appropriate for our own circumstances. It might be a cheque to
the LASSN Hardship Fund or dry foods for the PAFRAS drop-in visitors or
a letter to our MP
, although of course the needs are and our
response should be on-going.
We will also feature a 'story' illustrating the kind of people and situations
where we are hoping, with your help, to make a difference. So here goes!
ACTION January 2010 Dry and tinned food for Practical Action for
Refugees and Asylum Seekers (PAFRAS) including meat but not pork. There
is a labelled box at the back of church.
This month's STORY: K was an air flight controller at his country's
international airport. Wanted by the police because of his work for human
rights he sought asylum in the UK five years ago. His application was
rejected and all previous support cancelled. He seems resigned to the
situation
. "I have nothing"
