On destitution among asylum seekers in Leeds
Following the meeting with Fabian Hamilton,
Bishop John Packer and others on October 16th RCCC has decided that each
month our magazines will feature a different target response to the ongoing
problem. It is felt that by suggesting different responses in this way
we can all play our part as is most appropriate for our own circumstances.
It might be a cheque to the LASSN hardship fund or dry foods for the PAFRAS
drop-in visitors or a letter to our MP
We will also feature a "story"
illustrating the kind of people and situations where we are hoping, with
your help, to make a difference. So here goes!
ACTION February 2010.
It is not much fun sleeping rough just now. Sleeping bags, blankets even
duvets. You have them? We need them. Please leave them in the PAFRAS box
at the back of church.
THIS MONTH'S STORY;
L had been a silversmith in his country's capital. Losing everything when
he was bombed out he was reduced to crude metal bashing. He decided to
leave, alone, hoping for refuge. It has proved a nightmare. It is the
humiliation as much as anything else.
