Amnesty International Greetings Card Campaign
This time last year members of our congregation
were busily signing greetings cards with short messages of support for people
wrongly imprisoned or persecuted for conscience sake. We managed 60 cards
then, and more were sent from St Andrew's, Lidgett Park Methodists and The
Immaculate Heart.
Once again Amnesty International are asking us to support their annual Greetings
Card Campaign. The Amnesty International magazine often publishes news from
grateful recipients explaining how the cards have raised their spirits by
showing them, and (just as importantly) the authorities, that they are not
forgotten by the outside world. AI provides case sheets giving photos and
names of people from all round the world who would appreciate a greetings
card, together with background information about them. They also give practical
advice on: salutation, the addresses to send to; whether or not a religious
card would be helpful; postage costs, etc.
These details will be on display as usual during November and December on
and near the One City One World notice board, together with biros, postage
stamps and a few cards. Alternatively you may prefer to take a case sheet
home and provide your own card. Please do take a few minutes to write a
card and pray for the person you have selected or, if you feel you cannot
send greetings, just choose someone for whom you can pray.
