Books for Lent
During Lent, when Christians focus on the cross,
bible study and prayer often take on a new intensity and deep meaning. To
help with our own meditations a selection of books for Lent is now available
on the bookstall. These books will usually have 40 days of bible studies,
thoughts and prayers on a particular theme.
You will find some old favourites on the bookstall - Delia
Smith's 'A Feast for Lent' (which is not a recipe book!) and 'Lent for Busy
People'.
A
new book published this year is 'I Thirst' by Stephen Cottrell. The following
review is taken from The Christian Book Club:
'Among the last words Jesus spoke before dying on the cross were "I
thirst". These sorrowful words are simple, yet very human. Jesus Christ,
the thirsty one, shares deeply in the mess and muddle of human living. This
book - the 2004 Archbishop of Canterbury's Lent book - helps penetrate the
deep mystery of a God who goes on loving - through mockery, mutilation and
murder. Cottrell peels back the layers of meaning in this simple cry of
longing, in the hope that each reader's thirst will be quenched by the one
who thirsts for our souls.'
Copies of this book are available on the church bookstall. If it has sold
out, then please speak to Andrew Wallis who will be pleased to get it for
you.
