Church Army Sunday
Wilson Carlile was a curate of vision, fired
with enthusiasm to share his own faith in Christ with those who would not
normally come anywhere near a church building. It's no wonder, then that
the society he founded in 1882 is still imbued with the same qualities.
Church Army officers today are engaged in "pioneer evangelism"
through their own ventures and by developing work in partnership with others.
Some of these "cutting edge" initiatives include
- Club Network - a team working in night-clubs in Cardiff
- The Malt Cross Project - a Christian venue reaching out to young people
seeking a good time in Nottingham nightlife
- Sanctus - in Manchester encouraging alternative ways of worship
- KidzKlub in Page Moss Liverpool
- Streetreach - launched on a Lower Shankhill Estate in Belfast
- 3:16 a Bus Project providing a "request stop" for mission
in West Grimsby (John 3:16)
- Valley of Hope project in the Rhondda Valley for people leaving prison
or with drug problems
- Web evengelism. Impossible?
Traditional work continues; indeed "Ty-Bronna" a centre in Cardiff
for abandoned teenagers has won a major social housing award, and the
"Marylebone Project" is the sole 'women only' hostel in central
London.
The Church Army is grateful for our past support. It still
needs our prayers and financial help if it is to continue its vital work.
Please don't forget the retiring collections, agreed by Simon and the PCC,
after the services on the 26th. Also learn more about the Church Army from
the 'Shareit!" magazines at the back of church or visit www.churcharmy.org.uk.
