Closer to God

I have been using this daily devotional for some time now, and I'd just like to share one of the meditations from a recent extract.

"Do I seek God's face, or his hand?
Do I love him just for who he is, or because of the gifts, power and benefits he bestows on me?
Is God my heart's delight or my insurance policy?"

This meditation has a real 'wow!' factor for me. I feel humbled and chastised. I remembered the meditation of some years ago when I dared to look on Jesus' face.

I need to gaze longer on His face,
to feel the outpouring of love and
forgiveness.

Help me Lord to find a new focus -
to love you and yearn for you with all my heart.
Not because of what is to come,
but because that is why I am on this earth -
to love you with all my heart,
all my mind,
all my strength;
to absorb so much love that I can't help but reflect it back
to you and to others.
Help me Lord to love and LOVE and LOVE….

"As the deer pants for streams of water
so my soul pants for you, O God." (Ps 42:1)

'Closer to God' is a quarterly booklet that has daily bible readings and commentary, with a meditation on Fridays to encourage readers to apply what they have read into their daily lives.
