York Minster
Recently our choir took part in choral evensong
in the York Minster. When our choir got there we were one of the last to
arrive, which was a bit embarrassing. After a quick change we walked across
to the Minster itself because we got changed in the Minster school. As we
arrived, me, Elliot, Elspeth and Lucy were to be split up from the adults.
My first thought was how huge the Minster was, ornate paintings on the ceilings,
magnificent statues.
The conductor stepped on a little platform and began to introduce himself.
Then the practice began. The music was quite challenging but our friends
in the congregation said it sounded great. There was also a bit where we
practised processing in. This didn't really help, as it went wrong when
we did it for real, and we all ended up sitting in the wrong seats! The
service went well with the Archbishop of York doing the sermon.
Overall York Minster was a very fascinating place and I really enjoyed the
experience.
