Roundhay FilmFest
A date for the diary: from 6th-8th May, Churches
Together in Roundhay are planning a weekend's Film Festival to take place
in St Andrew's Church. The Festival will begin on the Friday evening with
the popular film "Made in Dagenham", which tells the story of
a strike by women sewing machinists against sexual discrimination. Then
on the Saturday afternoon there will be a film for all ages - "Toy
Story 3". On the Saturday evening we will be showing "Grow your
Own" a delightful, moving and thought-provoking comedy that brings
together the themes of asylum and allotments. The festival will finish
on the Sunday afternoon with "Africa United" a story about a
group of children travelling through Africa to the World Cup, which also
deals with issues such as Aids.
After each film there will be the opportunity to enjoy ice cream and other
refreshments and, if you wish, to mull over with your friends the issues
in the film. The final film will be followed by African food, and then
some worship with an African flavour.
Admission to the films will be on a donation, with any profits from the
festival going to KOST a Kenyan charity that supports orphans.
