Joel finishes his first year
A group of parishioners and friends have for
some years been sponsoring the education of a young
Sudanese man, Joel Katoro, first through his A levels
and now at Mbarara University in Uganda where he is
doing a BSc in medical laboratory sciences. Joel
recently contacted Jill and Jon Vogler by email as
follows:
"I have the pleasure of extending my
appreciation to you and the friends of the Church of
St Edmund's Roundhay who have all along financed my
study in the university. I thank you for that and
encouragements I have been receiving. The course has
been quite interesting and I am enjoying it.
It had not been possible to send you the full
details about my course due to the amendment being
made on the prospectus. I promised to furnish you
with the necessary details as soon as I got them.
However I am glad to inform you that these were the
course units we are following .
(Joel then describes in detail the topics being
studied, research work undertaken and text books used
).
I have appreciated the services being rendered by
the Hugh Pilkington Charitable Trust. They have
always insured that my tuition fees and allowances
are catered for promptly. However I suggest that the
textbook allowance be given at once and to cover the
cost of all the text books instead of the usual
yearly amount which won't cover the cost of all the
textbooks in time.
May God bless you all.
Thanks
Yours faithfully
Sua Joel Katoro"
Joel is just finishing the first year of a four
year course. We need about £1,000 a year for the
next three years to complete the sponsorship. If you
can help please contact me on 2933909.
