For Queen Elizabeth 2nd - Thanks be to God
As the Queen's Golden Jubilee celebrations come to a climax this month, the country's attention will focus on a lady who has trusted implicitly in God throughout her long reign and set a wonderful example to us all.
It is perhaps the Christian community of this country that should most appreciate a head of state whose life of service and duty to her people has been rooted in a strong Christian faith. Worship and prayer have been at the centre of the Queen's life and she has often quoted from scripture in her broadcasts and speaking engagements.
Her faith has expressed itself through her unerring service and duty, her dedication, integrity and her honesty - never complaining or criticising.
She has given immense encouragement to people working in difficult circumstances and those striving to alleviate the suffering of others. She has also been patron of the Church Army and many other Christian organisations throughout her reign.
At a time when perhaps too few people have a sense of public responsibility and willingness to offer themselves in service to their communities, we should be grateful for the Queen's example of taking on responsibility and seeing the job through.
As she celebrates her Golden Jubilee, let us thank God for all that our Queen has been and done for our country and the wider world and pray that he will continue to bless and guide her in the years to come.
