Our New Lectern
The
lectern has been made possible through the generous donation of the Bennett
family in memory of Pattie and Syd Gale, Tricia Bennett's parents. The front
up-stand of the shelf will form a "plaque" with wording which
has been approved by the Diocesan Advisory Committee of the Diocese. The
oak panel has been made and will go away for inscribing and fitting in due
course.
The modest size of the lip of the shelf meant the words from Isaiah which
were also requested couldn't be fitted on. These are very appropriate for
a lectern:
"My word is like the snow and the rain that come down from the sky
to water the earth. They make the crops grow and provide seed for sowing
and food to eat. So also will be the word that I speak - it will not fail
to do what I plan for it; it will do everything I send it to do."
Isaiah 55 vv10 and 11.
It is hoped to provide a pulpit "fall" or hanging
with these words embroidered on it.
The lectern has been made by Howard Landon who also made
our altar table and it also incorporates wood from the former choir stalls.
It arrived on 29th January 2008.
