Live 07 - a celebration of scouting

2007 marked the centenary of scouting and throughout the year there were a number of events to mark the occasion. The celebrations were brought to a close in November with a live show at the 02 Arena (formerly the Millennium Dome) in London, hosted by Peter Duncan, the chief scout, together with Zoe Salmon from Blue Peter and Lizzie from CBBC Newsround.

Three cubs from the 10th North Leeds St Edmund's Tuesday night pack were lucky enough to be chosen to take part and were the only cubs from North Leeds to participate.

Live 07, as the show was called, was made up of a number of performances by different groups of Beavers, Scouts, Cubs and Explorers from almost every district of the UK. Jack Lowe, Cameron Hind and Alistair Deuchars were part of a team of cubs from across Yorkshire.

Each performance helped to celebrate the story of scouting. The show was spectacular and the huge venue meant that the performances were truly memorable. For example, one group of scouts abseiled from the rafters to demonstrate the kind of activities that scouts are involved in. Another act took the shape of a big parade with the performers dressed in historical clothing and driving vintage cars showing scouting through the decades. The cubs from St. Edmund's and the rest of Yorkshire put on a great show on rollerblades singing songs to candlelight. The 15,000 audience also had a chance to join in with some well known campfire songs.

Jack, Cameron and Alistair really enjoyed taking part and felt that it was a fantastic once in a lifetime opportunity.
