Churches I Have Visited Last
Year
I have visited a variety of churches over the last
12 months and inevitably I compare them with St
Edmund's. In Nigeria I worshipped at the Anglican
Cathedral in Warri. A large congregation, a long
service with 3 collections being taken - one
specifically for evangelical work. A noticeable
feature was that the organ, loudspeakers, fans in
fact most items had heavy metal guards encasing them
(there had been an armed robbery at the end of the
Service not long before we visited) yet the whole
theme was joyful praise and thanksgiving.
There was a small church near the Agbamu compound
- a corrugated roof supported by a basic framework.
The only furniture - a reading desk. We did not see a
service there. The average income in Nigeria is less
than 60p per day.

We saw a total contrast; a Bible Church (of which
we saw hundreds). Each one is set up by individuals
who believe they have a message to give - it could
accommodate 58,000 inside and up to 2,000,000 if all
the car parks were used. Loudspeakers relayed the
service.
