Brownies are 90

It was in 1908 that Lord Baden Powell had the wonderful idea that started the Scouts and in 1910 Agnes, Baden Powell's sister helped to start the Guides. Many of the early Guides had younger sisters who wanted to join in the fun so in 1914 Baden Powell started a group for them called Rosebuds. The Rosebuds loved their meetings but decided they did not like their name. Baden Powell remembered a story he had heard about helpful mysterious creatures called Brownies so in 1915 Rosebuds changed their name to Brownies and we have been Brownies ever since.

To celebrate Brownies becoming 90 Wednesday Brownies invited parents and friends to a short presentation followed by refreshments along with a cake containing 90 candles. Four new Brownies made their promises, the Brownie story was enacted, we learnt about the Brownie uniform since 1914 to the present day. (We were even loaned a Brownie uniform from the 1960s.) The Brownies then had great fun dressing up in costumes representing most of the decades since 1914, and holding up placards showing inventions, fashion, music and film from each decade.
