PAFRAS

(Extracts from a recent newsletter)
PAFRAS (Positive Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers) would like to thank all those who have supported them in 2007.

2007 was an extremely busy year for PAFRAS. The work conducted has become increasingly vital, and the number of people accessing PAFRAS services has dramatically risen. Where 2006 saw 2230 visits from service users, 2007 saw 4465. Similarly, where in 2006 1847 hot meals were served and 787 food parcels were given out, in 2007 this increased to 4266 and 2108 respectively.

PAFRAS works to promote social justice through a combination of direct assistance, individual case work, and research based interventions and analysis. Awareness raising and lobbying has been ongoing through presentations, talks and written work.

We would like to thank all of the churches across Leeds and beyond who have supported us steadfastly and shown belief in our work. Further, the work of the volunteers at PAFRAS is of paramount importance and we would like to publicly thank them for their tireless work; without which we could not operate. We would also like to pay tribute to the PAFRAS 'service users' who unfailingly display their dignity in the face of adversity.

If you would like more information please speak to Patricia Jakeways or Pat Hooker who are regular volunteers.

Thank you to all in St Edmund's who regularly contribute to the PAFRAS box.

Food items are always urgently needed for PAFRAS and these include sugar (1kg), tea bags, rice, tin tomatoes, tin fruit, tin fish (tuna/sardines) tin meat (not pork), chocolate bars, cereal bars and toileteries including soap, toothpaste and shampoo.
