Prayer for Change

The Prayer for Change appears simultaneously in the magazines of Lidgett Park, St Andrew's and St Edmund's

When we pray for change, God's answer often is: "You do something about it". (See Jesus's response to the disciples on the occasion of the feeding of the 5000). We may then be moved to remember to visit a lonely friend, or to support a campaign or to attend a (political? religious?) meeting - alone or with others.

Sometimes it may seem that there is nothing we can do to effect change. I found this helpful thought in Neville Ward's "The Use of Praying" (now sadly out of print).

"Every act of prayer culminates in the offering of the self to God, to be used, if this may be, in the accomplishment of God's purpose in the world."

Jesus counselled us to pray believing: in the faith of God's response (see how he commended the centurion - Matthew ch 8 v 9-10). And he promised to be with us always "unto the end of the world".
