Prayer for Change
The Prayer for Change appears simultaneously
in the magazines of Lidgett Park, St Andrew's and St Edmund's.
Generous God, we thank you for your gift of love which enables us to celebrate
the Church's seasons, the Advent joy of looking forward, the Christmas joy
of Christ's coming and the Epiphany joy of Christ's being shown to all people.
Help us to make time in the bustle of our own happiness to reach out to
people who are suffering, especially those on our own doorstep in Leeds,
whose misery is made worse because of the contrast with the celebrations
around them. With the added insights given to us through the One City Project
we pray for: the destitute who have no homes and no families to care for
them; drug addicts; the sick in body or mind; those caught up in prostitution
and pimping; asylum seekers and refugees; those who are tempted into debt
so that their children may enjoy Christmas and the many whose loneliness
is more acute at this time of year.
God, who showed us generosity by giving us Jesus, move us to show generosity
too.
