The Prayer for Change is printed simultaneously in the magazines of Lidgett Park, St Andrew's and St Edmund's
Let us join in prayer about change.
We know we meet, and shall continue to meet, many "changes
and chances in this mortal life"; this is a necessary consequence of
growing:
From youth to age;
In condition (single, married, bereaved);
In understanding and learning;
In mood and outlook;
And with God's help, in "growing in grace".
But throughout this, we hold on to God's unchanging promise that "I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Does God change? It's our perception of Him that has changed: that he's not the war-lord of Joshua but the loving father of Hosea; not the stickler for rules of Leviticus or Matthew's Pharisees, but on who justifies us by grace; the Everlasting Word.
There is a hymn which suggests more: "You are older than the world can be, You are younger than the life in me": "Keep me travelling along with you". Here's a picture of God graciously adapting himself to our incomplete understanding of him.
Let us rejoice that God is with us. (In the Holy Spirit, in the support and encouragement of our friends) and is revealed to us in Christ Jesus.
