Prayers for Change
These prayers are shared with Lidgett Park
Methodist church, St Edmund's church and St Andrew's
church.
The G8 summit in Genoa, Saturday 21st
July 2001, is the best chance we have to get a new
deal on debt. Drop the Debt is co-ordinating the
international campaign working with Italy's Jubilee
movement. The aim is for a one-off cancellation of
the backlog of unpayable debt owed by the world's
poorest countries on a case by case basis.
Please pray for all the world leaders at the G8
summit, members of the IMF and World Bank that
justice will prevail. We give thanks for all the
people attending the demonstrations and we remember
especially the people who suffer because of the debt.
Shepherding God, Standing in solidarity on the
harsh edge of existence, Huddling with refugees,
fending off the cold, Struggling alongside families
who barely eke out a living; Enable us to be
shepherds of justice and righteousness.
Shepherding God, Dazzled by the opulence of our
purpose-built shopping arcades, Saddened by the
incessant activity of our self-important life styles,
Angered by the deception of wealth and our opium of
security; Challenge us to be shepherds of justice
and righteousness.
Shepherding God, Fending off the world pack of
cruel dictators, Standing firm against the lure and
seduction of the money lenders, Opposing injustice,
oppression and violence in all their guises; Empower
us to be shepherds of justice and righteousness that
all may dwell together in the house of God.
