RSCM Course

Emily Richardson, Emily and Elliot Pawley, Lucy Millichamp and I represented St Edmunds choir at a 4 day Royal School of Church Music residential over the Easter holiday, 25th - 28th March. RSCM have done similar courses for many years in different parts of the country. This one happened to take place at Pocklington School. There were around 50 children of an age range of 9-18 staying there. We were split into 4 different houses and stayed in dormitories of about 2/3. We had to tidy our dormitories every morning and we were given a mark out of 10. I happened to be very lucky and shared a room with tidy Emily Richardson so we won! (JUST). House tutors taught us and they were assisted by house captains. We rehearsed everyday for about 7 hours. We had a service every day which most of the time were taken by our Chaplain Sarah Hills. We had some services in the school theatre and some in Pocklington church. Our theme of the week was rainbow people, inclusion and reconciliation. Our conductor was called Mr Gordon Appleton.

It was a fantastic course. I enjoyed it so much. I made lots of friends and yes we did get some sleep. The course improved my singing loads. It will be an experience I will never forget and I hope to go again!

On behalf of the members of the choir that went on this course I would like to thank the music committee for their financial support.
