St Edmund's Scout Leaders' Weekend
After cancellation last year due to the Foot & Mouth outbreak, the bi-annual Scout Leaders' weekend took place from 3rd to 5th May at Colsterdale TOCH Centre, near Masham. Fifteen past and present leaders met on Friday evening for a barbecue and started sharing Scouting experiences.
After breakfast on Saturday we set off for Jervaulx Abbey and the start of a seven mile circular walk taking in lunch at the Cover Bridge Inn. Upon returning to Jervaulx we split into two groups with one walking back to the Centre, a further seven miles, with the others returning to the Centre via Masham for some shopping and to start the evening meal. A home-made game of "Millionaire" followed dinner and was enjoyed by all.
We awoke on Sunday to glorious blue skies and a fantastic view down the valley towards Masham. A short Scouts' Own service followed breakfast then onto reading the Sunday papers, a traditional Leaders' weekend event. We then played a version of golf devised by Roger Cook. This involved throwing a tennis ball into hoops various distances away, the lowest number of throws won the game. Winners were the pairing of Bev Wilkinson and Bob Gibson. Following a very filling lunch of hot beef baguettes, we packed up and left to go home by mid-afternoon.
A very enjoyable and relaxing weekend which left us all looking forward to the next reunion in two years' time.
