"The Stone was rolled away"

Seeing Jon Vogler's lettering on the stone as part of his arrangement for Easter and now above the tomb in the Easter Garden set me thinking - what does this mean for me? What does it mean for us here at St. Edmund's?

To roll away the stone means letting Jesus out of the tomb…..
To roll away the stone from our hearts means letting Jesus in….but it could also mean letting Jesus out of us "to shine as a light in the world" "to be as salt in the world" individually and collectively. How do we put this into practice?

It means letting the light of morning into our dark places, conquering our fears as to what we may see and then sharing the experiences and together telling others so they, too, can know Jesus and find his healing, wholeness and power.

I'm sure there are other pictures or images that will come to you as you think about this phrase….ponder on it as we await the celebration of Pentecost when the giving of the power of the Holy Spirit is remembered and reclaimed anew by all who believe.

We do not have to struggle alone - Jesus is waiting for us to turn to him and he has given us the Holy Spirit to help us as we try to find his will for us each day. It took a while for the disciples to realise about the resurrection and they were worried and frightened. For us, too, it can take time: time to build our faith, trust and confidence, and we need the encouragement of each other in fellowship and prayer. Then we can find out how we can go out as Jesus instructed us to do in the places where we are day by day with the stone rolled away from our hearts.
