A New Altar Table for St. Edmund's
On 18th November 2005, and just before St.
Edmund's Day, we took delivery of a new altar table. This was made possible
by a legacy of Billy Wells who worshipped at St. Edmund's for many years.
The table is made of oak and wood retrieved from the former choir stalls
has been used to make the top. There wasn't any wood thick enough to form
the legs. The inlay you can see on the legs and edge of the top is bog oak
and there are five crosses incised into the table top. The person who designed
and made it is Howard Landon who has his workshop near York. It is hoped
to commission designs for a matching lectern during 2006 and this, too,
will include some of the saved wood from the old choir stalls.

Thanks are due to Daphne Tinker who made some new linen
for it in time for it being used for the first time on Advent Sunday, 27th
November 2005.
