Waddow Holiday

1st Roundhay Guides had a very enjoyable and oddly relaxing holiday at Waddow in August. Waddow is a Guide Association activity centre in Lancashire with a number of campsites and a choice of indoor accommodation. We stayed in the Stables and also had a small campsite so that those who wanted could spend a night in a tent.

The Guides did a number of activities organised by the centre including mountain biking, archery, skittles, grass sledging and orienteering. However they would probably quite happily have spent the whole holiday paddling in the river which runs across the bottom of the site! We also explored some of the surrounding area doing a quest in the nearest village and following the river into Clitheroe where the girls chose and bought their own food for dinner. On another day, we visited the local swimming pool which despite being small provided lots of things to play with.

The highlight of the holiday however was the company, both the Guides and the other leaders. The Guides seemed to bond really well as a group and were very good at governing themselves, choosing their own bedtime and what they did between organised sessions. We are already talking about plans for next year.
