St Ed's Web Watch

Last month's article focused on words and suggested a web site which enabled you to locate books to read; this month's article concentrates on music.

The first site (www.musicplasma.com/) allows you to enter the name of your favourite artist and will provide you with a complete discography of that artist and, more interestingly, displays a sort of map indicating artists with a similar style to that of your favourite. The map also indicates how popular each artist is. A sample of the artist's music is played.

Have you ever attended a St Edmund's quiz and tried to identify a 1960s pop song (or worse a song from 2004) from a short extract? You can identify that song by dialling 2580 on your mobile phone and pointing your phone at the source of the music. A new search engine (www.shazam.com/) will text you back with the song title and the name of the artist.
