Articles - From the Clergy
'The journey into faith involves a process
that includes awareness of God, recognition of God's work in Christ, entering
into the Christian story through the scriptures, turning to Christ as Lord,
incorporation into the body of Christ, nurture within the Christian community,
and being equipped and commissioned for ministry and mission within God's
world.'
Those words from 'Common Worship Initiation' sum up something of my faith
journey, nearly half of which has taken place at St Edmund's!
I was baptised as a baby at St Margaret's in Birmingham and con-firmed thirty
years later here at St Edmund's where I've had the privilege of being a
Reader.
Soon I'm moving on to serve as a Deacon at St James the Great, Manston.
As I reflect on my faith journey I am thankful for the many people who God
has used to nurture me, pray for me and foster an awareness of him in my
life: my parents and godparents, Sunday school teachers, my family, friends
and all of you at St Edmund's.
Baptism is a sign of new beginnings and also of belonging; our faith journey
with Jesus begins and we belong to the worldwide family of God's people.
Each baptism service gives us not only the opportunity to renew our own
baptism promises but also to welcome and to promise our prayer and support
for the candidates and their families.
St Edmund's has become a welcoming and supportive community and you'll be
in my prayers as a new stage in ministry and mission begins for you when
the new incumbent arrives.
Wherever our faith journeys lead, I pray that we might
'Shine as a light in the world to the glory of God.'
