Articles - From the Curate
I wonder if you have ever spent time simply gazing upon a single flower or listening to a particular piece of music? Each in their own distinctive way offers the opportunity for our senses to engage with the wonders of creativity and creation.
Music often enables us to be in touch with our inner feelings and to express our emotions. Whilst gazing upon a flower or plant captures so many of our senses and reminds us again about the exquisite detail and design of God's creation. The Music & Flower Festival that takes place this month in St Edmund's Church will offer us all an abundance of flower arrangements and musical contributions that we can feast upon.
The single flower can say much, but when flowers and foliage are used in variety and arranged with an artistic eye they can enable us to see a subject in a new way. Having spoken to some of those who are involved in preparing a floral interpretation of 'The Promise of God's Glory' I am very much looking forward to viewing the displays.
I also wait with anticipation to hear the music provided by our own choir and the choir from Ripon Cathedral. Music through its own particular medium helps us to engage with our faith. In addition, it reminds us of all those who have gone before us; those who have sung deep and true about God and all we share in Christ.
I hope that you will find time to spend time in church over the festival weekend and that the festival provides an opportunity for you to invite neighbours, friends and family to what promises to be a wonderful few days.
I trust that all that you hear and see will speak to you through its beauty and artistry and that it will take you more deeply into the heart of God.
